Situated beside the Quay in the medieval town of Sandwich, near Dover and Deal Kent, The Old Dining Room is modern, light and airy.

Sandwich is arguably the most complete medieval town in England and easily accessible from London. The Guildhall and Town Hall, the Butts, Ropewalk, Millwall, the Bulwarks, the Fisher Gate and Toll Bridge over the River Stour are all redolent of its historic wealth and importance.

The Bell Hotel has been welcoming guests to stay and dine in Sandwich, Kent since Tudor times. A Bell Inn has existed on The Quay, adjacent to the Barbican Gate and Toll, overlooking what would have been the harbour, now the River Stour, since about 1300. The present listed building is mainly 19th century.

Today with its thirty-four ensuite bedrooms, a Georgian Regency room catering for up to 100 guests, the Stour conference suite overlooking the river, a restaurant with lunch and dinner menus which vary with seasonal availability and two bars, that importance is set to continue.

Our head chef and his team have helped to create bar, lunch and dinner menus that vary according to seasonal availability, and will appeal to customers who like the freshest foods simply cooked to bring out their fullest natural flavours. Local fish and seafood, salt marsh lamb, vegetables, salads and herbs from nearby farms, all play a role.

Our restaurant and bar have recently been refurbished and is now a splendid mix of the old and the new. The clean lines, honey-coloured oak flooring, contemporary dining tables and chairs, the use of Farrow and Ball and walls as exhibition space for photographers and artists make for relaxed and informal restaurant dining.

The wine list is carefully chosen from the major wine growing regions of Europe, South America, South Africa and Australasia. Recently we teamed up with top Kent-based wine producer and grower Chapel Down to promote gorgeous English wines now available at The Bell Hotel.
