More Information About Sportsman - Seasalter ~

Voted Shepherd Neame "Good Food Pub of the Year" - two years running!

Beside the sea at Seasalter between Whitstable and Faversham and in January 2008 it was awarded the prestigious Michelin Star Award.

Being close to the sea front at Seasalter and the Saxon Shore Trail, it's a popular resting place with walkers as well as visitors.

An unassuming pub exterior conceals a restaurant of high culinary ambition. They make their own sourdough bread, butter, and even salt from the nearby seawater. Inside is all stained floor boards, tongue and groove and wooden tables and chairs.

An ever changing chalkboard menu includes local seafood such as Whitstable native oysters and fried thornback ray with brown butter, cockles and sherry vinegar. Meat is local too; the roast lamb served with mint sauce comes from Monkshill farm in nearby Faversham.

True gourmets will want to experience the eight course tasting menu that might kick off with a plate of oysters and chorizo, pickled herring and soda bread followed by the Sportsmans own 18 month salt cured ham and finishes with three desserts.

A lovely pub, recently refurbished with well-scrubbed pine floors and a harlequin array of stripped pine chairs and tables. And don't forget those two Food Awards.

Review

"Sportsman - Seasalter: Eating at places like the Sportsman makes one glad to be alive and in possession of tastebuds! The anticipation of walking through the door and getting that little tingle of excitement is almost too much to bear on occasion! One of the only places we've come across that stocks Pelarus and, for that alone, they should be commended! We love everything about this place...."
